 New York legal community names eLaw No. 1 for the fourth consecutive year

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – September 17, 2014 – eLaw, the leading Web-based platform that provides critical and up-to-date court-related case information, was recognized for the fourth consecutive year as the Best Docketing and Calendaring Software in the fifth annual New York Law Journal (NYLJ) Reader Rankings survey. eLaw was chosen as the winner from 15 other contenders and open write-ins for New York state.

Published since 2010, the New York Law Journal Reader Rankings allows the New York legal community to acknowledge who they believe to be the best providers of products and services to their market. In 2014, more than 8,000 votes were cast in an online survey composed of 13 main categories, including Litigation Support, Research & Information Services, Technology: Software and Services, Consulting and Outsourcing, and Recruiting and Staffing. In this quarterly issue of the eLaw Insider, we offer tips for managing your eLaw account, including profile changes and updating your eWatch list, as well as information related to new appellate rules that may affect your cases.

Changing your eLaw Information

You can update your eLaw profile and change any field EXCEPT your User ID.
• After logging in, click on “My eLaw,” in the top right area below your name.
• On the next screen, click on “Manage Users,” in the left-side navigation column.
• Next, click on the blue cog wheel to the left of your User Name/email address.
• This will open up a screen that will allow you to “Edit” your profile.
• Please remember to click “Save” at the bottom after making your changes.

Deleting cases from your eWatch list is easy and fast.

Deleting Cases from your eWatch List

• After logging in, click on the “eWatch” symbol, located in the top navigation row.
• Using the “Search” box in the left-side column, locate the case you wish to delete by typing in the index number or case name.
• Click on the blue cog wheel to the left of the case that you wish to delete; this will open up a screen that will allow you to delete the case.
• Select “Delete eWatch” from the options listed in the left-side column.
• Follow the prompts (“Yes” or “No”) to remove the case.

New Appellate Contingent Fees, Disbursements and eLaw

Recently all four of the appellate divisions in New York adopted a new, mandatory rule governing contingent fees in personal injury cases, but not medical malpractice cases. Be sure to review your current fee agreements to ensure that they are up to date, and that they include the two options for a client to choose from on how they wish to handle reimbursements. 9/19/2012 – NEWARK, NJ – September 19, 2012 – eLaw, the single source of critical knowledge for busy legal professionals, was recognized for the second year in a row as the best docketing and calendaring software in the third annual New York Law Journal (NYLJ) Reader Rankings. Published this month, the reader rankings allow the New York legal community to rank vendor products and services according to which are best in the users’ opinions.

More than 6,800 lawyers and legal professionals cast ballots in an online survey comprised of 63 categories, including technology, research, accounting, insurance, financial services, litigation support, real estate, education, recruiting, and staffing. Voters had the option of selecting companies listed on the ballot or writing in another favorite. As appearance dates of interest arise, they can be seamlessly added to a calendar without risking the errors that may occur when manually entering dates, times and places.

Subscribers can automatically synchronize updates between eLaw and their Outlook calendar when they register cases for automated tracking via eWatch. The improved communication and scheduling features help subscribers better collaborate with colleagues and staff, promoting increased efficiency and productivity.

eLaw now automatically sends each eCopy order to a subscriber’s eLaw account, in addition to users receiving the orders by email or fax. By having eCopy accessible via an eLaw account, subscribers can view or download the order at any time and not worry about the person receiving the email being on vacation or out sick. With appropriate permissions established, anyone from a firm can access an account and view, print or download and save the requested eCopy at any time, 24/7.

Additionally, eLaw has improved its calendar reminder alerts.
